Melanie Stott is a property tragic, having been raised on various building sites and memorably photographed at the age of three undercoating the kitchen pantry. She bought her first home some 20 years later, renovated it and discovered a bit of a knack for property. One house led to another, led to another, and another and so on, until she realised the property industry was much more interesting and lucrative than her real job of being a TV journalist. However, the real job paid most of the real bills, so Melanie worked for National Nine News in Brisbane for a decade – all the while moonlighting as a mad renovator and landlord. Together, these roles kept her off the streets for years.
At one point she met a lovely builder named Andrew and regrettably paid him large amounts of money to repair a disastrous old house – only to marry him and have two divine children with him a few years later. He’s still not paid the money back. Anyway, they are ridiculously happy but occasionally discuss selling the children on eBay to invest further in property, especially with all of the bargains floating about post-GFC.
Melanie adores writing about property investing, and would like to expand her involvement in the industry when the littlies are bigger. She is a keen observer of all things property-related, especially economics and politics. Melanie is also a freelance television news producer and freelance corporate writer, and she manages the family’s current property portfolio.
