Quick Overview

Cardinia Shire , South-east of Melbourne

Pakenham has been one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Melbourne for 20 years. It continues to deliver major population growth, as well as steady increases in property values, and has yields well above the Melbourne average.
By 2036 the population of Cardinia Shire, which sits just outside the Melbourne metropolitan area in the south-east, is expected to have almost doubled from 94,000 now to around 180,000.
This forecast has prompted the construction of many small infrastructure projects, including community sports fields, as well as a $70 million upgrade to Racecourse Road. Now a $200 million motor racing track and hotel is proposed.
Cardinia Shire was named in the State Government’s growth strategy document - Plan Melbourne - as the potential site of Melbourne’s third airport. Cardinia has the advantage of being near the Port of Hastings and therefore has the potential to become a key player in a freight transport network.
Improvements to the Metro Train network now under way will also reduce travel times to the Melbourne CBD and other key employment hubs.

This report covers the suburbs of Beaconsfield, Bunyip, Emerald, Koo Wee Rup, Lang Lang, Officer and Pakenham.
