$130m prison opens in Townsville

Townsville’s new $130 million Women’s Correctional Facility has opened.  The 154-bed facility is the state's only women’s prison built outside of South East Queensland. It has been referred to as a "fortified TAFE college" because of the number of education programs designed to assist in the rehabilitation of inmates. It is the first Queensland prison to offer a nationally-accredited training program for trade instructors. Inmates have access to computers and business courses.
