The $140 million project to remove the busy Springvale Road level crossing and construct a new grade separation at Nunawading in Melbourne is on track to be delivered by 2010, according to Vicroads. The project, funded with $80 million from the Federal Budget and $60 million from the State Budget, will create over 100 direct jobs - and more for suppliers and sub-contractors. It will reduce congestion through the intersection and boost road safety by removing the boom gates. In the past five years, there have been 50 crashes causing injury and death. A new railway station for Nunawading boosted by a new pedestrian underpass will replace the old facilities used by 3,000 commuters a day.
