A $165 million, 156-berth marina on the Murray River has been approved for Mannum, east of Adelaide. The 178ha site includes plans for 600 homes, an entertainment and tourism precinct, restaurant, retail and an Aboriginal and environmental interpretive centre. Developers are confident the marina will reduce the environmental impact and erosion caused by houseboats permanently moored on the Murray. Plans also include a sewerage facility built away from the river, rainwater tanks for each house and stormwater management to feed back into the river. River Murray Minister,Karlene Maywald says the development will generate employment for the region where farmers are still affected by the ongoing drought.
