$1bil targeted on north Qld

Almost $1billion will be spent on capital works in the northern Queensland region based around Townsville in FY2010, following the State Budget. The spending will be directed to projects such as electricity transmission lines ($110 million), expansion of the Cleveland youth detention centre ($70 million), extra beds at Townsville Hospital ($39 million), the Townsville Port Access Road project ($47 million), expansion of the Abbot Point coal terminal ($305 million) and the Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Initial Infrastructure Works ($30 million).
