A $2 billion satellite city proposed for Adelaide's north will create thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of economic benefit, developer Walker Corporation says. The new township, 32km from the centre of Adelaide, will be twice the size of Mawson Lakes and is expected to house 33,000 residents by 2036. The development will incorporate 12,000 new housing lots, four primary schools, three neighbourhood centres, two secondary schools and employment areas for business and industry. Preliminary work on the first stage of the development will begin before the end of the year. Urban Development Institute of Australia SA executive director Terry Walsh says the 1,340ha land release is crucial for meeting the needs of Adelaide's growing population.
