$500mil Vic power station planned

Construction of a $500 million gas-fired power station in Victoria’s south-west could begin as early as July and generate enough energy to power 700,000 homes. Documents submitted to the Federal Government by AGL Energy outline the company's plans to develop an 850-megawatt gas-fired power station at Tarrone, north-west of Koroit. About 300 jobs will be created during the power station's construction. Stage one is scheduled for completion in late 2012. AGL has completed an environmental impact statement, which finds few ecological issues with the construction. Discussions with local stakeholders have not uncovered any significant problems likely to block the project.
