The Abbot Point coal terminal in North Queensland broke coal export records in June, thanks to demand from Asia. It handled 1.66 million tonnes of metallurgical coal in June, topping the 1.55 million tonnes record set in December 2002. The North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation says the expansion of the port’s facilities, which will double its capacity by 2011, is on schedule and on budget.
