Aust jobless to rise slowly: OECD

Posted on 26/06/2009

The OECD forecasts 57 million people unemployed around the world by 2010. But the jobless rate in Australia is likely to grow at a slow rate, with businesses saying they plan to make only modest cuts to staff. Since 2007 Australia’s unemployment rate has grown at about half the average rate of other OECD nations, from 4.4% in 2007 to 5.7% in May, and the OECD predicts an unemployment rate lower than projected by the Federal Government.
