Battle for Townsville

Posted on 14/08/2008

The increasingly competitive Townsville retail sector is set for a new battle as Castle Town Shoppingworld submits an application for a multi-million dollar expansion. The Hyde Park facility completed a $34 million expansion in 2007 and is now looking to add 11,186m2, including a discount department store, as well as 749 new car parks. Centre owner McConaghy Properties bought almost 20 homes in 2005-06 with the expansion in mind. It says its plans respond to the region’s strong population growth and will improve the range of retailing available in Townsville.
