Canberra's Causeway falls to "Yuppieville"

Residents of Canberra's Causeway precinct say their homes are being allowed to deteriorate and they're being pushed aside to make way for "yuppieville". Causeway's 100 residents have been told they'll have to relocate within three to five years to make way for the ambitious East Lake development. The 47ha project will cover parts of Kingston, Griffith and Fyshwick, housing up to 9,000 people and 3,000 workers. The first land releases are expected by 2010-11 with the development taking up to 30 years to complete.
