Coal is here to stay

Coal will for decades continue to be the dominant source of global energy despite community expectations over climate change, according to two international industry figures. Chevron Technology Ventures president Des King and Partha Bhattacharyya, the chairman of the world's largest coalmining company, Coal India, were speaking at separate conferences in Perth and Adelaide, but were saying the same thing; coal is here to stay as our primary energy source. Bhattacharyya says he is not concerned about what might come out of the Copenhagen climate change conference because his country's carbon emissions per capita were "far far below the world average". He says while nuclear and renewable energy sources would play a role in providing power in India, coal would remain the main energy generator.
