Desalination plant considered for Albany

A desalination plant near Albany is being considered as part the West Australian Water Corporation's report identifying new sources of water on the state's south coast. The report, to be released early next year, is expected to identify a 150km stretch from Albany to Walpole as a suitable site for the state's third desalination plant. A spokesperson for Corporation Great Southern says the plant is a "competitive" option given that local groundwater and dam supplies have dried up. Drinking water was carted to nearby towns of Denmark, Walpole, Cranbrook, Lake King and Varley this year.
