Joint venture partners Petratherm, Beach Petroleum and TRUenergy have officially launched the Paralana geothermal energy project 600km north of Adelaide. A 54-metre high drilling rig has drilled more than 1km into the earth seeking the hot rocks to provide a clean and constant energy source. The $40 million rig will drill another 3km to reach its target. The partners hope to be producing commercial geothermal energy by 2011.
