Island state lacks economic impetus to fuel price growth

THERE are plenty of reasons to feel bullish about the economic prospects in most of the states and territories around Australia. Tasmania is the standout exception.

Western Australia has the granddaddy of all resources booms under way and will prosper if its state government can facilitate the spreading of the wealth to other sectors. So far, the wider community is feeling the benefits.
