M2 expansion to service Sydney's north-west

Talks are under way between the NSW government and the M2 operators to secure a $500 million upgrade connecting it with the freeway servicing the city's north-west. The M2 is one of Sydney's most successful tollways carrying 110,000 vehicles a day. Premier Iemma says the upgrade will "relieve existing congestion points and prepare it for additional growth, with 140,000 new homes and 100,000 new jobs planned for the north-west over the next 25 years." The region will also benefit from the $12 billion North West Metro rail link, which is to be completed by 2017.
