MPs will suffer if Melbourne link goes above ground

Labor MPs in Melbourne's north are expected to lose votes if the road linking EastLink and the Metropolitan Ring Road goes ahead above ground. Premier John Brumby says the Government is considering options for the road to create a continuous "orbital" freeway in outer Melbourne running from Altona to Frankston. Dr Nick Economou from Monash University says an above-ground road will create negative fallout for sitting Labor MPs but a tunnel may benefit the incumbents by reducing local traffic.
