New plan for $1bil Townsville terminal

The State Government has released a revised master plan of the $1 billion Townsville Ocean Terminal. The project has seen numerous different versions as developers seek approval for the scheme amid complaints about its proximity to port operations and susceptibility to storms and rising sea levels. The new proposal aims to fund construction of a cruise and military ship terminal through development of a canal residential estate. The major changes from the old plan are: 80 houses and villas compared to 200 previously; 750 apartments compared to 500 previously; more marina berths; two additional super-yacht berths (now 12); and introduction of a five-star hotel with 180 rooms.
