The NSW Government has officially scrapped the proposed $12 billion Northwest Metro, which was to link the city through to Baulkham Hills and Rouse Hill by 2017. A Budget committee meeting confirmed that the government simply couldn’t afford the plan, and the funds were needed for other more urgent projects. The committee decided on a new package to provide more buses and train carriages to existing stations in north-west Sydney. The Government has also committed to a $3 billion CBD Metro running through the CBD to east Darling Harbour, Pyrmont and Rozelle.
