Parramatta's Civic Place plans win in Court of Appeal

Posted on 11/06/2008
Parramatta Council's plans for "the most ambitious urban renewal project this century in NSW" will go ahead after the Court of Appeal overturned a Land and Environment court decision preventing the Council from acquiring private land next to the Civic Place site. Landholders had been holding out on the Council, hoping to sell directly to developers, Grocon at a higher price. The development will include commercial, retail and residential areas with new civic and community facilities, open spaces and links to public transport nodes. Applicants now have 28 days to appeal to the high court.
