Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot has described Queensland Premier Anna Bligh's decision to build a desalination plant at Marcoola as a knee-jerk reaction. Bligh says desalination plants will be built at Marcoola on the Sunshine Coast and Lytton in Brisbane by 2017 and then at Bribie Island and Tugun by 2030. Abbot says water harvesting technoSlogies could be an alternative to a desalination plant. The Liberal National Party Member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson, says the plan  is sour grapes by a Premier upset at the scuttling of the Traveston Crossing dam near Gympie.
