Rudd announces jobs fund, mortgage reprieve

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has announced a $650 million community jobs fund and a 12-month reprieve on mortgage payments for people who lose their jobs. He says the major banks will postpone mortgage interest repayments for up to one year or offer short-term reductions in payments. The jobs fund includes a $150 million infrastructure employment scheme to create jobs in communities affected by the economic downturn.
