Tolls pay for 4 out of 5 of Brisbane's billion dollar roads

Four out of the five billion-dollar-plus road projects in Brisbane will be funded by user-pays tolls. The $3.9 billion Airport Link will be partly funded by a road toll, as will the $3 billion North-South Bypass tunnel, the $1.9 billion Gateway Bridge duplication and the $1.5 billion Northern Link tunnel from Toowong to the city. Several smaller projects, including the $390 million Hale Street Bridge, will also rely on tolls. Only the $1 billion Ipswich Motorway upgrade will not incur a toll.
