Vic plans coal exports

The Victoria State Government plans to offer billions of tonnes of Latrobe Valley coal for tender. At the same time, it plans to approve a $1.5 billion plan by Exergen to mine, dry and export 12 million tonnes of brown coal per year, for use in Indian power stations. Exergen plans a 150km underground pipeline to carry the dried coal from the Latrobe Valley to Hastings on Western Port. It hopes to build a demonstration plant capable of processing 50 tonnes an hour – if successful, a larger plant would be developed with exports to start in 2014.
