WA firms hiring again

Western Australian companies are hiring again, with mine expansion plans and oil & gas projects creating demand for workers. The iron ore sector is expected to flourish through expansion plans by BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Fortescue Metals and others. At the same time, the oil & gas sector is starting construction on multi-billion-dollar projects. Global mining giant Rio Tinto made some tough cutbacks to cushion the impact of the financial crisis, but the usually conservative company is back to focusing on growth. The miner's $1.6 billion Brockman 4 mine, near Tom Price in the Pilbara, is ahead of schedule and up to 400 new employees are being sought for the project.
