WA study predicts growth in 2011

A joint industry-government study into the WA mining sector has predicted a return to growth in the medium-term, following a decline in demand over the next few years. Rapid growth is expected early in the next decade, the study says. Under one possible scenario, it projects demand for labour to grow at an annual rate of 7% to 27,000 by 2014. Under the second scenario, there will be a sharp upturn in demand in 2011 and incremental demand to rise to 38,000 in 2012. The highest growth regions are expected to be the Pilbara, the Mid West and the Goldfields/Esperance region.
