Victoria Has Led The Trend Which Is Driving Regional Markets

We’ve been telling our customers for the past two years that the outstanding property market in Australia is Regional Victoria.

The trend that is sweeping Australian real estate, the one we call The Exodus To Affordable Lifestyle, started in Regional Victoria.
It has been, and continues to be, a strong trend elsewhere in Australia – but it first became apparent in Victoria. And it continues to be a powerful force there.

This significant demographic shift has been incorrectly reported in mainstream media as being a consequence of the pandemic lockdown period. In reality, The Exodus To Affordable Lifestyle started well before 2020.
It has been driven primarily by technology – which has created the ability for more and more people to work remotely – and has been enhanced in some instances by improved transport links.
The virus lockdown phases gave further impetus to this trend, by opening the eyes of more and more people to the possibilities of working from home.

In Regional Victoria, new transport infrastructure like the multi-billion-dollar Regional Rail Link which opened in 2015, gave momentum to the decision by city residents to move to regional areas of the state.

The phenomenon has gathered pace and in 2020, with the Melbourne lockdowns, has picked up speed.
Increasingly, the trend is spreading beyond the original reach (regional centres within 1-2 hours of Melbourne and impacted by improved transport links) and is now affecting regional markets a greater distance from the capital city.

This edition of the Top 5 Victoria Regional Hotspots gives you the pick of the crop – plus the data to explain why these locations are thriving and the growth drivers that will continue to push them into the future.
